Lunar New Year Ritual

Happy Lunar New Year! Welcome to the first New Moon of 2019!

I’ve created a ritual specifically for this New Moon and the New Year to share with all you beautiful souls. Take what works for you and leave what doesn’t. I hope this New Moon in Aquarius brings you the structure and encouragement needed to make all your dreams come true. I’m always here if you want to talk about it more or have any questions. :)

Why Work With The Moon?

Humans have long worked with the moon, some examples include agriculture, calendaring, and understanding the ocean tides. And, despite our addiction to screens, our internal clocks are still affected by the moon, as well. Afterall, we are mostly water (average adult is 57-60% water), so it only makes sense we would also be connected to the cycles of the Moon. For the sake of simplicity, I generally work with five phases of the moon: New, Waxing, Full, Waning and Dark. This ritual focuses on the New into the Waxing. The New Moon is a time of starting new projects. Following the New Moon, the moon enters a waxing period, where it gets bigger as each night passes up until the New Moon. This is a time for setting positive intentions and then taking steps through the waxing period to see those intentions come to life.

What Makes This New Moon Special?

It’s the Lunar New Year! This is the first New Moon of 2019, a very powerful time for setting intentions for the year ahead. January was a time for clearing out the space, with two powerful eclipses forcing us to face any blockages standing in the way of our desires. Now with the start of the Lunar Year, we can clearly walk the path we are meant to walk. Follow your heart’s desire. Start that new creative project. Create that new business proposal. Make that cold call. Create an action plan. Go.

This New Moon is in Aquarius, which is all about logic and structure. Believe in your dreams and take responsibility for them. List the necessary steps and create deadlines for yourself to take them. Of course, give yourself some flexibility as life does happen, but know that even creating an agenda signals to the universe that you are ready to receive the answers you are looking for to get where you want to go. Most importantly, believe in yourself. Breathe out doubt. Breathe in confidence. You have all the tools you need inside of you. Now it’s time to begin.

When is the New Moon? Do I have to set my intentions at that time / on that day?

February 4th at 1:04pm PST, the New Moon enters Aquarius.

You can set your intentions on the 4th or up to three days after it, while the power of the New Moon still lingers.

Suggested Rituals

  • Write down your top 5 goals for the year. These can be personal and professional. Take your time but also let it come to you naturally. Listen to your intuition.

  • Under each goal, write down 3 action steps to take over the next two weeks until the Full Moon on 2/19.

  • Check in with your goals and steps daily, at the beginning and end of the day.

  • We’ll check back in with those goals on the 19th. I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much you can accomplish! :)

  • Note: Be ambitious but also be kind to yourself. Know that every situation is an opportunity to learn and grow. If you hit a block, use it as lesson. What worked and what didn’t? Then simply move forward. Know that there are no right or wrongs here, only infinite possibilities to bloom into your fullest potential.

Close your eyes and tune into your breath. Take a few cleansing breaths to start, inhaling deeply and exhaling loudly through your mouth. Then begin to visualize what your life looks like as those goals manifest into reality. What does it look like? How does it feel? Put yourself in the scenario so much so that you feel, smell, taste, touch, hear every part of it. Stay in this meditation as long as you’d like. I encourage 20 mins, but even 5 mins will notify the universe you are serious. You are ready to receive.
